Ultrasound examination (sonography)

The ultrasound examination of the abdominal organs is used for the evaluation of all organs within the upper and lower abdomen. This is an uncomplicated and painless examination, that only requires prior fasting in exceptional cases (e.g. for gall bladder evaluation).

It serves as a base analysis for every type of abdominal ailment and only takes a few minutes.

For specific cases the additional color-doppler examination can provide information about the blood circulation within the organs.

Contrast-enhanced sonography

This is a special ultrasound examination often used for lesions of the liver. After injection of a contrast agent (Sonovue) the influx of the contrast agent allows a more detailed specification of the lesion, making possible to differentiate between a benign and a malignant mass in the liver.
